Not A Sob Story
Jun. 23rd, 2005 11:53 amSome may already know this story, but I feel compelled to tell it anyway:
When I was 10, I really wanted to join the band. I wanted to play saxophone. I would have done anything, but my parents had already purchased a trombone for my older brother to play. I had two older siblings who were going to be in band, but neither stuck with it. Well, Mom said if I learned the trombone, then she'd let me get a sax when I showed my commitment. By the time I was 15, I was pretty good at the bone, especially considering the fact that I hated the thing. I never got the sax. I also wanted to play cello, but in a similar story, ended up learning the violin. The only thing I really wanted to learn that I got to learn was the piano and - forgive the brag - I'm damned good at it. Oh, and guitar, but I don't practice enough...he he
Anyway, I was in the car talking with Mom about the plight of the sax and how I still want to learn it. I told her I was going to start shopping for one. That's how th blue sax happened - she offered to help me pay for it so that I could get it now.
I don't know if I'll take lessons. I'll probably have to eventually, but in band I used to pay attention to the impromptu lessons my band teachers gave to the woodwinds and besides, I'd like to see if I can teach myself. I sort of taught myself trombone as I didn't take private lessons, only learned in class. Same for violin. {shrug} I'm just damned excited to have the chance finally!!!
In other news, we're going camping tomorrow for the weekend. Pussy camping - at one of those campground places - but there will be swimming and there's a rumor that someone offers horseback riding in the area. Should be fun!
