Do the foxtrot!
Aug. 5th, 2003 07:45 am{hugs computer} Oh I missed you so...
Only painful part is resetting everything the way I like because I'm not fond of factory/basic settings. They're just not convenient.
So, happy happy joy joy, no more "making do" for me. I have so many ideas for photoshop and those programs I couldn't use on the laptop, it's funny. Ever notice how you're inspired most when you're cut off!? Ah, life.
So, here's a few things I've been up to, including the picture of my computer I had to wait to scan. (I took it a month ago and am considering taking a new one just to remind myself how much I change my desk on a regular basis and see what stays the same.)

Amongst the things that have happened:
I finished reading Glamorama- loved it, really. I mean, the reviews seem sort of lukewarm (from friends) but I really really liked that one - better than American Psycho (but I will blame seeing the movie before reading it to some extent)
Started a new book called Torture: The Grand Conspiracy which I borrowed from Jen. Yeah, it's cool, but I have to say if you're a historian, you already know at least 75% of it from lectures and the more advanced European history. Even still, the presentation of it (focused rather than as a mixture of an overall look at a particular time period) makes it worth finishing, so far. Of course, I've only just begun. Maybe it gets more obscure as it delves deeper.
Seriously, though, just a minor gripe. I love book recommendations, but I am getting sick of "You have to read this book" - even worse is when it's followed by the person showing up at your door with it. Hey, guess what, kids? I've got a stack of 7 books I bought for myself that I haven't been able to read because I've been bombarded with everyone else's recommendations. Grr. I mean,
larue916 is great because at least she waits for me to ask to borrow a book, but offers to let me if I want to which is fair. Makes me feel like I'm getting no where with my own reading list. {sigh}
Toria is in the midst of potty training. No fun at all. Mostly tests my patience, actually.
Then our car broke down. Egads. Public transport here is actually fantastic (compared to the other two cities I've lived in for extended periods of time) but unfortunately the lightrail stop nearest hubby's work is about 2 miles away and the bus doesn't run out that street because it's sort of... back off the main road so the 2 miles is the closest he can get. Sort of a pain to do in weather that's been 100 degrees Fahrenheit (or more) for the last 2 months. Even the mornings are hot. So... we got it looked at, repair took every spare penny, and then it stalled all the way home - so they looked again for free (which we're thinking "Well, DUH! Of course you'll do it for free, you were supposed to catch it THE FIRST TIME!") and in the end, they did charge us only the part, not the labor - but we had to borrow because as I mentioned, every last penny. I hate owing people money, but hubby gets paid Friday so we'll be off the hook after that. Sucks, too, because I set aside some money of my own to buy gifts and send a package to
jodie_mouse and now I have to wait even longer.
I don't know. Personal relationship is strained and at some point I'll probably have to bitch here just to get it out, but today is not the day.
I'm so happy to have my computer back... how pathetic is that?
Wait, don't answer that...
