Since I was mainly in water, getting a massage, or shopping the 3 whole souvenir shops for the bulk of my time I didn't take many.
Rundown:
Monday
Arrived in Lava. Visited with Jen for a while, then we drove down to the shops where they were supposed to have the palm reader. Turns out she only comes in on Saturdays or during the busy season. Two stores down we find out there's a tarot card reader who will come into town if we make an appointment so we ask her to come in on Tuesday. Afterward talking to the guy who sets it up I drive up and down the street (which is walkable in about 5 minutes) trying to decide which of the many hotels I want to stay in. Note: there are more hotels than shops and restaurants combined. The library is the size of my living room...
So, I was thinking 'I am running away. What I want is an experience - a hotel with personality - a hotel worth of, say, Sam and Dean.'
Inside it was clean and fairly updated. If they'd done the walls to match the bedspread and tossed out a couple brightly coloured lamps, though, I would totally have had a Hunter's Special, right?
Lovely view from my room, though!
I would like to mention that by this point, I've received 3 phone calls from my sister which I've ignored. After the third (and the second voice mail) I call hubby and ask him to call her and tell her I will take care of her dramas after I return. In the end she said everything could wait, but this is the kind of thing I needed to get away from. It seems like I'm always somebody's go-to gal for things they want done right away, things they don't want to do themselves, or things they need help with. I don't mind it, really, but I shouldn't have to keep spending all my spare time doing that instead of anything I want to do. In reality, I didn't realize how bad it was until I wasn't here to do it. I complained about it, but it just really hit me how bad it had gotten.
After checking in to the hotel, we gathered our stuff and headed over to the Hot Pots.
There are five pools varying in size (most big enough for swimming) and temperature (102 to 110 and let me tell you there is a BIG difference in those 8 degrees! 102 is like a mild hot tub. 110 scorches the skin! We spent most of our time in the 106 pool)
Midday was about 45 degrees in the sun. Cool, but not freezing. By evening it dropped to about 25 (lows were about 18 overnight) and as it got cooler, the pools got steamier. Of course, this made for foggy pictures which were mostly useless, but also some interesting contradictions. I took this while sitting in the hottest pool:
Tuesday
I had hoped to get a massage, but it turned out there's only one person doing them and Jen already had an appointment so she got herself rubbed while I finished reading one book and started the next. I met her afterwards and we walked up to the shop for her tarot reading. It turned out to be rather awesome, but I don't feel like tarot readings are public domain unless it's my own so I'll just say some cool things were mentioned... which if Jen listened to me she would already have known! lqtm!
The lady, unfortunately, misunderstood that I wanted a reading too, so I didn't get one. {frown} She had another appointment to get to so I missed out, but oh well.
Since Tuesday was Jen's birthday, we decided to drive into Pocatello for late lunch/early dinner. It was a lovely drive, although I did have difficulty driving within the parameters of optimum gas mileage and speed limits whilst in my new car. Idaho Highway Patrol, btw, also drive Dodge Chargers.
I gave Jen the clover Build A Bear in a Celtic Dance Dress... she loves Ireland (as it's where her ancestors lived) and she loves clovers. I named her (Sham)Roxy McMintly.
I picked cute white heart sandals instead of those black ones, though, and added in a rolled up shirt that says "Blame it on the Leprechaun".
Oh dear! Now you've seen too much! Time to gouge out your eyes!
And for humor, my nephew - Jane's age.
So, we got back from Pokie and decided to watch Lucky Number Slevin. 'Twas pretty good. Finally it was time to return to hotel. I watch Fawlty Towers on my iPod before bed which just made me ggl.
Wednesday
Got up, went shopping for souvenirs. I picked up a pair of knee high black moccasin boots for Jane! Cute as hell. Got Scott this cute purple dragon and a dragon sticker for his laptop. I bought Jane and myself these two Nene Thomas fairy keychains. Checked out of hotel, then, and went over for my massage. 90 minutes of ecstasy before I drove home. I knew I was cutting it close... pulled into the driveway at 3:15, but for once (of course) Jane hurried home and beat me! Probably only by 5 minutes since it takes her until 3:10 when she rides her bike.
It was great, though, to just run away and not think about anything, not be around frustrations...
Sunday I'm making a Transformers cake for nephew's b-day. Should be cool; Jen gave me a great idea for it while we were driving to Pocatello. I'm sure it could be on cake wrecks, but if it's at all decent I'll get pics. I'm kind of excited... D-man wanted the cake to be blue and red, but not the outside - the inside! lol, so I volunteered to make it happen. I am trying to decide if I should go through the trouble of checkerboard or if I should just alternate layers...
