Things That Are Cool
Apr. 20th, 2009 10:17 amYesterday we began the experimenting stage of this year's Science Fair Project. Last year, Toria studied bread mold and it was cool. This year it was Candy and Soda.
Also, we went to the zoo again.
I wish I'd taken video of some, actually, but there's no way to display that at the fair...so use your imagination.
Pop Rocks in soda - a little fizzy.
Junior Mints - in most sodas, a little fizzy. In ginger ale and tonic water, it floats up and down like fish or some weird lava lamp.
Altoids, gumdrops, sour candies - little to no fizzing.
Lemonheads - it would fizz up very slowly and eventually come out the top, flowing over.
Pixy Stix - we thought it was just flavour and sugar - like Kool-aide or something...

Kinda cool, huh?
but then came Mentos - which she had seen on Mythbusters and that's what gave her the idea for this project this year.

And the best for last!

ZOO:
It's been cold again so last Saturday was the first warm, sunny day for a while. The animals seemed thrilled to be OUTSIDE.
The little colobus was acting nutty again so most pictures were a blur like last time. This one of it playing with Mom was cute, though.

I have never noticed the black penguin before...

Oh, and dah beebee geese were out, awr!

The smaller of the two snakes she pet. I didn't think to take a picture of the first one.

The owl they were showing off:

And, of course, the most dangerous animals at the zoo:
