shipping!?
Nov. 28th, 2007 10:05 amI am about to lose my marbles! Online shopping has always been my friend because even at the best of times I don't really like stores. I don't get the whole "window shopping" thing and I can't even justify spending money on shoes I probably need.
So wtf is up with shipping? I'm not naive. I know this has been a progressing problem, but this year it's out of hand. First my sister wanted to buy a USB turntable for Mom. We find one for $159, but shipping is $66. That's over 40% added to the cost just to have it sent?
Next I had my eye on a serving dish for my sister-in-law.
...Hubby comes from a large family, as do I. For years, my family has done a system where we buy a gift for just one sibling on a rotating schedule. Well, I talked hubby's family into the same system. Now the eldest sibling has said he won't buy for the name he has this year because "She's rich. She doesn't need anything." How much they have and how much money her husband makes is not the point, is it, jackass!? This guy, grrr. He's selfish, takes no accountability, is rude, generally not a good person. This sister, B - it's not like she holds the money they make over his or anyone's head or acts like a spoiled brat. There's really no reason for him to be this way other than he's an ass.
So, hubby suggests next year we just remove him from the rotation schedule completely, but this is how it starts, isn't it? The whole point is to make sure everyone gets one decent gift (as opposed to those of us not living at home with their parents being able to only get little gifts because however much we spend must be multiplied by 7). Plus I know at least one, possibly two siblings who would go on the older brother's side and the whole thing falls apart. Meanwhile, none of them can figure out why my husband still has issues with this guy. Aside from childhood trauma, maybe it's because HE'S STILL AN ASS!!! So...
It's $8.79 for the platter, $7.99 for shipping. Are you fucking kidding me? When it started on ebay where people would list rock bottom "buy it now" and then charge double for shipping, I can't say I was surprised, but Amazon and Best Buy? Come on! Even if the platter is worth $17 I feel cheated by the system they're abusing.
I've been shopping everywhere for everything. My mother-in-law is proving to be a serious challenge and I'm starting to get irate about it...
