Dreams, dreams, dreams.

Had a dream. Don't waste your time reading it, really. I just thought it was cool and felt like rambling about my music days.

I dreamt I had a saxophone.

I know, big fucking announcement, right? Well, here's the story of why that's cool for those who don't know. When I was about ten, I wanted to play sax. I'd been playing piano for about 2 years then and knew I loved playing music. So, I asked my mom if I could join the extracurricular band class. She said yes, but handed me a trombone. I argued at first, but she said if I stuck with trombone for a little while, she'd get me a saxophone. Desperate, I said ok.

Side note, the next year I joined orchestra. Wanted to play cello, got the violin. I ended up liking the violin, but it wasn't my initial choice. Now, the reason for this instrument switching is that I was the youngest of 7 and my dad had been in a serious accident a few years before. Because his job and business were reliant on his recovery, money was getting tight. That meant I got the hand-me-down instruments that my elder siblings had chosen and then they quit a year later. I understand that now, but at the time I was frustrated.

Anyway, so when I was 15, I realized the "If you stick with it, I'll get you a sax" thing was a lie and I quit. Five years I stuck with it, hating every minute as I stared and even made friends with the saxophonists in class. I was actually not bad at the trombone - at least I never made mistakes that made the section sound bad. My heart just wasn't in it.

I kept taking piano, by the way. That's the instrument I play best, plus I learned several guitar techniques/styles(but I still need practice). In other words, I love playing music as much as I love listening - listening wasn't a taste I acquired until I was about 15 actually.

Anyway, so I dreamt I had this saxophone and I was going to learn to play it. This is still a goal of mine. Someday I'll learn the alto sax and the tenor. After that I might consider learning the barry, but I'll skip the soprano. Never been a fan of the soprano sax. It just refreshed me to dream about a saxophone...
