A few things...

I'm officially not recommending this one, though I do recommend her other books. I think her heart wasn't in it. This could be for several reasons which I've discussed with a few people, actually. She got so many awards and acclaim up to this point. That's a lot of pressure for a fairly new novelist. Not only that, but as
_resuscitation pointed out, two of her previous books have been made into BBC mini-series which have also aired here on BBCA and Logo (repeatedly!). It feels like a "contract" book, if anybody knows what I mean.
Then again, it could just be the fact that every time I find a great author/musician/artist... I devour all their previous work before the new thing comes out and then the new one does and I'm completely disillusioned. It's a curse! Somehow I find them just in time for them to get worn out. I should stick to dead artists.
Sigur Ros
I got copies from
larue916 because I had heard several songs, liked them, and she had bought several of their albums and said they were awesome. Well, they're sometimes awesome, imo. Some of the songs I don't like at all. I'm going to compare to Moby here. There are about 4 of his songs I just love, the others I almost loathe. It's very love/hate with him and I think that's what I'm getting with Sigur Ros so far. Just my opinion.
Clothes Dryer
So, I finally got around to calling a guy to fix it. I used my parent's electrician a) because they own many rental properties so I knew they had to have someone good and a good relationship with that company and b) the cost just for looking at it wasn't unreasonable.
Well, he re-vented it. I knew that was a problem. I tried to fix it myself, but I didn't have the right supplies, tools, etc, and I think it only helped. Still, I told him it sometimes didn't start and sometimes stopped in the middle of drying. He ran it to check it and I said it ran a little louder than it used to. I thought it might be a fuse based on what my manual said. He seemed to think re-venting would fix the whole shebang, but no. It stopped drying mid-load again yesterday! Fuck.
Sprinklers
Yesterday they finally came to fix the sprinklers which had been leaking since we moved in, basically. There is a constant big puddle alongside the house which has concerned me this whole time. Well, they worked for a bit and left. No problem. This morning when I woke, I thought I heard the sprinklers. I got up, dressed, came down, the water's still on. I go outside and unplug the automatic sprinkler system. It still didn't turn off! The only way now is to have the special tool to turn off the water outside completely until the water's fixed... which worries me because it took this long to get someone to come look at the leak by the house. Besides, a couple weeks ago, two sprinkler heads broke. I fixed them myself, but not before there were two dead spots (which were the things that alerted me to the problem). Those spots are only just becoming green again so if I can't water then they'll die... and I don't have a hose long enough. Fucking lame ass repairmen!
