Independence Day Fireworks
Jul. 6th, 2005 12:22 pmSo, on the 4th I let Toria stay up to watch fireworks.
larue916 kindly stayed and kept me company.
After the big show nearby, we heard the neighbours letting off some smaller ones in their yard so we thought we'd let her watch those. There's a large hedge dividing our properties so I took her up to the edge of the lawn and sat by a tree. We were quite far from them so we thought we were safe.
Then the nimrods started lighting flowers (little spinning fireworks) and throwing them randomly into the street. Well, one missed and came at us. I figured then that they had seen us so they would be more careful. Boy was I mistaken. After throwing one so far that it landed on the grass across the street (we live on a very wide street, btw) fortunately not causing it to catch fire, they threw another one that came at us. I saw the glowing fuse coming our way so I threw myself over Toria and started to dodge back toward the house. We sat on the grass closer to the house thinking surely they'd learned. Do stupid people ever learn? Of course not! A couple flowers later and one flew all the way across to the exact spot where we had been sitting!! The kid had to run over and stomp it out. "Sorry" he says as the parents were sitting on the other side of the hedge watching it happen. Was rather pissed by that point. I might have said something to the parents except I've met them and they're quite intimidating. I wasn't going to yell at the kid (he's in that age where it's hard to say if he should know better) but I believed it was the parents' fault for not saying anything before. Okay, sometimes I really do need hubby to fight my battles! They're kind of mean and trashy. {sigh}
GOSSIP:
Last night, my sis-in-law had her baby.
Two days ago we "officially" learned that my niece is pregnant & will be getting married next month.
