Still cleaning up the wreckage...
May. 27th, 2003 11:06 amYesterday, my sister-in-law called to say that she had some ideas to keep her kids happy Memorial Day, but she needed a bigger backyard. The short version is that they came here and I'm now taking a break from cleanup.
First we barbecued while the kids (7 of them) ran through sprinklers and Toria got on her new swimsuit, which, btw, is adorable and makes her look like a rainbow trout. LOL.
After eating , the kids hooked up a slip'n'slide which Toria LOVED and... hogged. I had to hold her screaming half the time so the other kids could have a turn because she just wasn't getting the concept of "taking turns". Yeah, that was fun.
Anyway, while they were making a mud puddle in the backyard (where slip'n'slide was) we set up for tie dying. So, while most kids played, we called over a couple at a time to tie-dye tees. Jen was nice enough to buy tees for myself, Scott, and Toria, too so I got to make one for the little one... he he he, cute!
After tie dying came a waterballoon fight. Filling the waterballoons at the kitchen sink ('cause the kids were using the outside faucets) was a challenge and... those cheapie balloons burst half the time so I was wet (and so was the floor) before getting outside!
Well, it was fun, the kids were (and this is notably unusual) quite well behaved and low on fighting, and Jen (and Ken, my bro) are quite cool because they made them clean up before leaving.
Still, I had to mop and vaccuum, clean the counters and throw out tons of garbage I wouldn't have had to do otherwise. I have to wash out my laundry basket because I let them use it to carry the balloons and have to straighten the stuff in the backyard because, while they picked up the balloon remnants and such, the chairs and all got moved and have to be put away.
On top of that, I have to do laundry because it's that day and since we only had plastic plates and cups, all other dishes needed added to the few I hadn't done yet and now I've got a couple loads of dishes.
Just sucks. I woke up this morning feeling okay, but became quickly aware of all the work that was left despite their help. Already did the floors and am waiting for the dryer to let me switch over laundry so this is my break. Not like it'll take all day, but when the muses are visiting, the last thing you want to be doing is stuffing canvas chairs back into their bags!!
