I've made this complaint to several people already, but...
For the first time in a very long time, I finished a book and DIDN'T have the next 3-4 planned. I just didn't know what mood I was in. I went online and requested 4 from the library. Four because the first one I was wait-listed number 7, the second, I was number 2 or 3... so I just kept requesting thinking it would work out because by the time I came up on any one of the lists, I'd finish the one before. Well, I wasn't number 1 anywhere so I borrowed a book from my niece and started it. Barely five days after the requests, ALL FOUR came in to the library. I guess the people ahead of me cancelled their requests because there were not enough in the system to have it come up nearly so quickly. Now I've got a stack of books and remember, I SAVOR every bite which is why I practically never read a book twice. Renewals are fine as long as no one else has requested them after me... Auch, I guess I should be reading instead of internetting. (Hey, if everything else can be verbified...{smirk})
Might work out though. I got Sarah Waters latest book so I sat down last night and read the first few pages to decide if it was one I should return to the library or one I want to own. I know, I don't re-read, but for my absolute favorite authors, I like to keep them on hand. I decided I am interested enough to buy it so I will - when the money's there. That can go back to the library. Another is Jane Austen - I've always found her to be a very fast read. The third is an adaptation which I did not realize so I'll take that back and find the original. That only leaves one that I expect to take me a while.
Meanwhile, I subscribed to a local authors LJ because it makes it easier for me to keep track of when her books are coming out and where she's going to be (I've been trying desperately to get my niece to meet her. My niece wants to, but there's always SOMETHING.) Well, today on her blog she discussed books that are going to be released in the next few months and asked readers what they're looking forward to. Look, I don't want to suck up here, but dammit! Her next book looks REALLY good and doesn't come out until Oct. 1st!! I couldn't put that as a comment to HER blog because it's way too suck-up-ee. It's only because all the other books I'm looking forward to have been released; I just haven't bought them or borrowed them from the library is all. Maybe it's not such a good idea to be on her blog because it just makes me impatient...
Mary, Mary, quite contrary, how does your garden grow?
My tomatoes are sad. Really sad. I think one may not produce anything. HMF!!!
I removed my first zucchini yesterday before it became the size of a billy club. In a bit here, as soon as I've processed my Avon order for the week, I'll be making delicious bread. Last night I grilled some with a spritz of that spray butter and pepper for supper. It was sooo yummy.
My crook neck yellow squash should be ready to eat in a few more days. I'm sooo excited! My Top Ace (sort of like acorn) squash is small, but there so I give it another couple weeks. It's been lovely!
I'm still sad about tomatoes though. They really are the POINT of my gardening!! {sniffle}
