The Conditions
Jun. 22nd, 2008 09:13 amIt's hot!
I just saw Satan float by chuckling and pointing. The pump in our cooler is broken so we can only circulate the air from outside. I think it hit 100 degrees here yesterday. My sister was kind enough to loan me her air conditioner. It has helped, but it was still 84 in the house yesterday. BAH! Today I am already making plans to escape back to parents' in the afternoon so I can record our shows.
Wiring basics
Satellite dish got moved so we have to have someone come out to re-aim. Telephone wires were gone so someone's coming next week to run that line. Fiber optic line melted away mostly. When we called about it, we found out it would cost $55 to have them come re-run the line. With wireless I can move the computer any time I want, Scott can go online with his PSP, and IF we ever get that laptop we've discussed we'll be ready to go. Though more expensive, it somehow seemed like money better spent.
Sleeping arrangements
Toria's bed and dresser are set up. I have to patch her walls and repaint before doing more. There was some mess made by a certain person who was "helping" us move. Oh, that's a fun story. For some reason it was insisted that we had to move everything out of Victoria's room. Why? I have no idea! They weren't doing anything in that room! Dad kept getting these ideas of what had to be done and demanding it of me and I kept getting really pissed because it's MY house and I had enough stress without him adding his made-up BS. In her room, he just yanked things off of her walls, ruining a couple pictures and creating a bunch of holes. It makes me so mad. He was a drywaller all his life so he knows better! Not to mention - mess with my stuff all you want, but do NOT fuck up Victoria's stuff. That is not fair to her!! I will probably have to go buy her a new princess poster if I can find one. I also have to get a new frame for her karate certificate. It just... GRRRR.
End sidetrack. So, hubby's bed is in his room and we've moved a bit into his closet. All the stuff from both rooms ended up in my room so I can't sleep in there. I am sleeping on a mattress in the middle of the living room. It's... yeah. The thing is I don't want to start moving all the big furniture in here yet anyway. We are getting an awesome entertainment center from my niece that my brother made, but we can't get it moved in until next week. The couches that will face it need to be cleaned. I'd rather arrange those before bringing in everything else. That way if we don't like our new arrangement it wouldn't be such a bear to move it again before settling in.

It is SO nice having my babies home! Koomer has been sad and cute. He is in our faces constantly. Right now he is sleeping right beside the monitor. He used to sleep with hubby but the last two nights he's slept with me. The thing that amuses me is if I even turn my head from one side to the other, he gets up, walks over me, and lays down. He doesn't ask for lovin', he just seems to have this need to be the first thing I see when I open my eyes. Is so cute!
Gwennie hid for the first day, but now she comes out, seems pleased. I think she lost a little weight - which she can stand to lose, but it makes me a little sad because it is probably the stress!
Stanley seems so happy to be home. He's back to his wackadoo self.
nightmares
The first night I woke up and thought I smelled smoke! I looked out all the windows looking for fire, but then I realized the smell wasn't that strong and fell back asleep. I felt better to learn the next day that there had been some wild fires and there was a little smoke in the atmosphere so it wasn't ALL in my head.
Meanwhile, Toria's sleeping like a log! Scott's having issues...
It's not really 'moving'
Moving back in after a fire, I've learned, is not like moving homes. I have been doing laundry and dishes non-stop all week because everything has to be cleaned. I have to wipe down everything that gets moved; furniture, decorations, etc. It's like spring cleaning, but there's more debris and you have to clean things you might not have thought to clean before. I'm also hoping to get most of this done before moving major furniture.
Stimulate this!
Despite my feelings about the stimulus check, I have to admit it's nice that it came just in time for us. I was going to save it for our Disneyland trip -- which is beginning to look like a pipe dream -- but that was before the fire. Now it's being used for things like wireless routers, curtains & rods (I didn't have them before, but with all white walls and all grey carpet, I have to do SOMETHING to show my personality!), new surge protectors (a couple got blown, apparently. Black streaks were coming from them. Thank heavens all our appliances seem okay so far), a Little Green Machine, and a few other things we need. (The Target gift cards got used first for a few necessities we needed right away and some wiring...) The only luxury we've decided upon is a zoo pass for the year.
I also really wanted to buy a digital camera, but it's not looking good. ;( My other camera is having issues. I am not sure how I'll survive with no camera at all, but it may come to that soon.
It's all just so much to think about. Scott has work and school still so I only have him two days a week to help. I don't mind doing the rest by myself, but it is kind of lonely. Toria's out of school, but I'm being really particular so I usually send her off to play. It's just... sooo muuuch to think about...
