This afternoon started out nice. Hubby used some paid time off to come home early. Shortly after, a headache started (not associated to his being home, I'm sure). By mid afternoon it was hitting migraine levels and by dinner time, I was locked in the bedroom. What's up with this? I never get migraines. Well, I shouldn't say never because I've had them before, but I'd estimate this to be about the 6th in my entire life. So, that irked me.

Hours later, it had finally subsided to a dull throb at the back of my neck so I decided to check email only to find out that fanfic.net is removing (has removed?) all NC-17 fic. Now, I have nothing archived there and have only vaguely toyed with the idea of doing so, but I know people with stories there - some of which I've visited on occasion.

Censorship, right? That's what it is. Could it be considered anything else? I'm tired of being told what I can say and what I can't. I'm tired of this mold that we're supposed to fit into. We are each different with different reactions, points of view, and things to say.

Basically it comes down to this. If we remove it, no one has to take responsibility. If a parent doesn't watch his/her child while that kid is on the computer and the kid accesses something they shouldn't (or something they simply don't understand), then parents can squawk to avoid taking responsibility for teaching their kids - well, responsibility. If we hide all the porn, then serial killers will have to blame something else.

There are consequences for every action we take - some good, some bad. We are more than happy to be held accountable when things go well and praise is due, but if the consequences are negative, hey, blame someone else. I'm tired of dumbing down because society, people, the masses are not willing to accept responsibility. You'd have to be a mindless drone to think that what you read in fic, what you hear in music, or what you watch on TV is what really influences your behaviour. What really influences your behaviour is the choices you make.
