Observations
Mar. 18th, 2008 09:30 amSome people are just happy and positive all the time.
Some people maintain this by being genuinely happy. They look adversity in the face and are determined to overcome. They don't let anything get them down.
Others maintain it by ignoring reality. When any serious topic arises, they turn away from it (whether figuratively or literally).
As if to illustrate this, I had a reminder of both within a 24 hour period.
My uncle, the former type, died last week. At his funeral on Saturday all I could think is how I would strive to be like he was. He was a shining light. He cared about people honestly and deeply.
Then on Sunday I was greeted by the latter. Someone asked if I had written the editorial he saw in the paper a few weeks ago. I said yes. Another someone asked what it was about and as soon as I started, he turned his back (yes, literally).
Which I realize happens a lot. When we have something to say, people always seem to interrupt or turn away, don't they? No one really wants to hear what anyone else has to say which is what drives us in herds to blogs, where we are finally allowed to finish a thought.
