opinions wanted...

snoweeVictoria wants to be a mermaid for halloween. I've drawn up an idea for a costume where I attach the leg fins to a pink leotard sort of like a skirt. For the shape imagine Morticia Adams only not so tight at the calf and ankles, then I'll have a fin come out from either side.
The thing is, I'm thinking swimsuit fabric is best for this. It's somewhat warm, very stretchy, etc.
Now the problem. I have this fabric:
leftover from a project I did years ago. It's watery, but it's not fishy, right? So I went shopping. I can buy some silvery-over-colour fabric which would look very much like a fish, but it would cost $10. So I find myself wondering do I want to spend the money for the fish looking stuff or do I want to use up this cute scrap of watery looking fabric?
