One of my adventures...
Dec. 20th, 2005 09:50 amHubby and decided we wanted to go see Rent. Just to state for the record, we both love musicals, but were not impressed by Moulin Rouge in the least. He didn't see Chicago and when I did I found it a little disappointing. Rent, though, I have been anxiously hoping for ever since I heard the first review when it appeared on Broadway - so years.
Anyway, we scheduled to go last Tuesday. Things came up, problems, and by the time we dropped Victoria with the babysitter, we knew we would be late - late enough to be walking in on the film, not just the previews. Well, I hate that and I hate to be that person so we decided to go to dinner for our date instead and catch the movie on Thursday because that was the next time we had time. Just as we were getting ready, I checked the schedule. They had taken in out of the good theater. So I check the newspaper online. Only two more theaters were showing it. (Rumor is, many people have been walking out and demanding refunds because of the homosexual content. {rolls eyes} You'd think that if you are a bigot that you would research your films before going out to see them, wouldn't you!?)
We go to the next choice theater. It kind of sucks, but it's close. We get there and they say they don't have it - the paper made a mistake. FUCK! So we call movie phone. The last theater is playing it, but they have moved up the last showing of the evening. If we can drive a 25 minute drive in 10 minutes, we'll make it!
So, we haven't seen it yet. We might have time today, but we haven't been able to procure a babysitter as yet. Tomorrow is out. He works until Christmas eve. I wonder if the damned thing will still be there...
Movies: Instead of leaving right away, we decide to look at all the movies - see if there's something else we'd like to see. Fantasy, action, fantasy, comic book action, King Kong in five theaters. Wow. What a selection for those of us who don't like fantasy movies, have had enough of comic book movies, and who only rarely like an action film, eh!? Look at what's coming, too. I like comedies, but not stupid funny - so that rules out the next two comedy films. I don't like kids so that rules out two more.
I'm actually very anxious to see Memoirs of a Geisha and I saw a little ad for Munich the other day so I am going to read up and see if I might like that. The theaters that used to show indies have had fewer and fewer films lately. These uncultured heathens in Utah just don't seem to create enough business for anything good to stay open. {bangs head on desk several times}
God, I just love Nat King Cole's voice so much that I'll even listen to Christmas carols if he is the performer...
