Oh what a thrilling...
...the last 24 hours have been.
Last night, our power went out. Well really that's fun, right? An excuse to light all your candles and wander the house in the dark. Except the 6 year old was terrified. Fortunately I had entertainment for the evening when
larue916 stopped by to pick up a package. Later we called the utility company whose recording explained that there were 45,000 people without power in pockets all over the county.
So, went to bed. Toria woke up scared less than an hour later - I hadn't even fallen asleep yet - and I let her sleep with me. Big mistake. Between the snoring, the heat (because, despite the rain and storminess, it was still warm and without electricity we couldn't get any air moving inside the house so that fabulous insulation just held the heat inside - not to mention the fact that kids are bigger heaters than cats), and the hogging of my pillows, I didn't sleep much. Finally sent her to hubby's bed at 4 am because he can sleep through anything, but apparently the snoring/heat combination kept him awake too.
Fortunately her school was not in our pocket so we got up, got her off to school, then went to my parent's house, then hubby's parent's house... calling occasionally only to learn our power was still out. (First thing in the morning they were down to 12,000 without power, but at 1 pm, they had only improved to 10,000 without power...wtf!?)
Just before picking her up from school, we stopped off at home because I couldn't remember if I'd checked the cat's food before we left and in those couple minutes, the power FINALLY kicked back on. Just scant 20 hours without power. Needless to say, I get to go shopping for food tomorrow (freezer - fine, but fridge - not so much)
